Activity 2.3 – Biosphere and Interconnections(Concept Maps)

Energy:Chapter 4 pg 64-66 and 69-76

From the sun that powers our world to the food we eat, energy is present everywhere. This concept map explains the various types of energy, such as thermal, chemical, and kinetic energy, as well as how they are measured in joules or calories.(Freedman,B .2018)

Biodiversity:Chapter 7 pg 119-129

Biodiversity covers the various ways that life sustains both the earth and humanity. This map illustrates how biodiversity provides us with materials, food, and medicine while also maintaining the stability of the environment, nutrient cycle, and oxygen balance. The ethical side of things is that we cherish nature just for existing. The classification section illustrates the complete picture of life by breaking it down into kingdoms such as fungus, bacteria, plants, and animals.(Freedman,B .2018)

Biomes and Ecozones:Chapter 8 pg 133-151

This Concept map categorizes ecosystems influenced by terrain, vegetation, and climateinto land and water kinds. While aquatic biomes include lakes, rivers, coral reefs, and oceans, terrestrial biomes include tundra, deserts, grasslands, and rainforests. Ecozones extend much more, revealing huge regions characterized by their climate and topography.(Freedman,B. 2018)

Summary of Concept Maps

The three concept maps Biodiversity, Biomes & Ecozones, and Energy all connect because they describe how different parts of life work on earth. Like biodiversity shows that they are a large priority of living things from plants and animals to fungi and bacteria. The energy concept map explains how all life depends on energy, especially from the sun, and it shows how that energy moves through food chains and ecosystems. Biomes and Eco-zones show where the living things are found like tundras, deserts, oceans, and rain forest, and  climate and landform an how they shape what survives in those places .Each concept map is different yes ,but they all fit together in one big story of life and survival on earth. These ideas connect to relationships of cause-and-effect. Such as energy flow limits how many species and how many bio-diversities can exist in a biome and since only a small amount of energy passes from plants to herbivores and even less predators. Biomes and Eco zones are set and stage by providing the conditions such as temperature and rainfall, and all that makes certain ecosystems possible for biodiversity to feel those ecosystems with species that use all those different energies in different ways. And together the three concept maps show that energy drives ecosystems, shape biomes, and with biodiversity comes in and fills them with life. Yes, they are all different in their own ways, but are all part of the same network of connections that keep earth alive.(Freedman,B 2018)
